For many, water is just a boring, tasteless drink that they would rather exchange for the more sweet and sophisticated drinks out there. But, on average, the human body is made up of about 60% water - and over 70% for the brain and heart. This makes water by far the most abundant element of the body.
If water makes up so much of the body, could it be that drinking it is actually good for us? Could a lack of it cause problems? Is water just there to link up all the other body elements together or does it also have specific functions to operate? If so, what is water there for?
Here are some of the functions of water in the body:
- it regulates body temperature
- it lubricates joints
- it flushes out waste products
- it carries nutrients and oxygen to cells
- it moisten tissues such as those in eyes, mouth and nose
- it protects body organs and tissues
- it helps prevent constipation
- it acts as a shock absorber to brain and spinal chord
- it helps dissolve minerals and other nutrients to make them accessible to the body...
Water is really essential to the body and in fact, there is nothing that can replace it. So when we do not drink enough of it, we are actually depriving our body of what it needs to survive... What happens then?
Dehydration can be the underlying cause of many chronic diseases as Dr Batmanghelidj found out. I fully recommend his book, "The Body's Many Cries For Water" which was an eye-opener for myself and many others. Many people have tried and tested his advice to drink at least 2 litres of water a day - with a pinch of salt - and seen great results in their health.
So many diseases, pain and various health issues simply disappear when people start drinking more water; and yet it sounds too simple to be true... but it is! Serious health conditions like diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma and even cancer... have been halted or even reversed with only water. Our body needs water and cannot function properly without enough of it. A lot of times, the symptoms we experience are just our body trying to tell us that it is thirsty. We may give it sodas, juices or many different types of drinks, but all it wants and needs is pure water. Let us hear its cry!...
